The much-anticipated second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video soon, and audience theories has been rampant.
The first season presents a diverse group of personalities residing in the afterlife, sets them at odds with songs about their clashes, and builds heated competitions and emotional bonds that drive audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season differ greatly, but certain themes recur frequently: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the showrunner stated earlier this year. "But I believe that me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That might mean fans have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how quickly season 2 moves, and how many of what they're waiting for happens this season.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some incredible reveals, some fascinating backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — particularly in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a few fans create a prediction grid about the new season," she says. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've actually done a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on the streaming service on October 29.
